Exhibition Dates: February 5 – March 29, 2019

Artist Presentation: March 29, 2019, 4:00 PM

In this exhibit, Volz —a professional artist and educator from Boulder, Colorado — shares his recent work with the NAU and Northern Arizona community.

Drawing inspiration from the forms and surfaces of antique medical devices, farm machinery, and domestic appliances, Volz’s surface treatments recall a spectrum of industrial materials from frosted glass to rusting steel. His skillfully crafted Post-industrial ceramic sculptures, installations, and functional objets d’art evoke the fantastical and reveal the artist’s spirit of inventiveness and ingenuity.

The work is a product of my desire to be engaged in a creative process of posing questions and solving problems.  The mechanical forms and antiqued surfaces that I use are meant to be familiar to engage viewers in a creative process of their own as they attempt to discern the true function of the objects amidst varying levels of real and imagined functionality.
