NAU behavioral health researchers are evaluating the benefits of music-based interventions (MBIs) on mental and physical health in rural and culturally diverse populations.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 id=\"impact\">Impact of the COVID-19 pandemic<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>The COVID-19 pandemic has significantly impacted mental health, with one in six youth and one in five adults in Arizona experiencing a mental health disorder each year.<\/p>\n\n\n<section id=\"impact-of-the-pandemic\"        class=\"nau-article-block-simple-color-text-photo bg-twilight-xxx-light \">\n    \n\n    \n        <hr role=\"none\" class=\"hr-clearspace-20 d-none-md\">\n\n        <h3>Pilot study<\/h3>                <p>This pilot study focuses on Indigenous and Hispanic individuals in northern Arizona, participating in behavioral health programs at The Guidance Center (TGC) and Haven Health (HH). The project is funded by The NARBHA Institute and the Center for Community Health and Engaged Research.<\/p>\n<h3>Goals<\/h3>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Designing the MBI:<\/strong> Creating a culturally appropriate music-based intervention through focus groups and interviews with staff and participants<\/li>\n<li><strong>Testing the MBI<\/strong>: Assessing the feasibility, acceptability, and impact id=\"launching-the-pilot-study\">Launching the pilot study<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>The project team is developing the MBI curriculum by integrating musical science, cultural knowledge, and behavioral health
