Of the 22 Tribes in Arizona, 19 operate a CHR Program and employ approximately 275 total CHR\/supervisors\u2013which is equivalent to 30% of the total CHW workforce in Arizona estimated at 1,000 CHWs.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The 2020 CHR Workforce Assessment produced by the Center for Community Health and Engaged Research, in collaboration with the AACIHC, found that CHRs serve as \u201cthe backbone of healthcare delivery in Native American communities\u201d and are at the forefront of tribal communities\u2019 response to COVID-19, providing essential services such:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul><li>Contact tracing<\/li><li>Home wellness visits<\/li><li>Disease prevention<\/li><li>Management education<\/li><li>Vaccination deployment<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>As part of their mission to \u201cadvocate for increasing access to high-quality health care programs for all American Indians in Arizona,\u201d the <a href=\"https:\/\/aacihc.az.gov\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Arizona Advisory Council on Indian Health Care<\/a> (AACIHC), an agency within the Arizona Medicaid System, has consistently engaged Tribal CHR programs to increase CHR workforce capacity and advocate on a state level for greater integration of CHRs into health systems.<\/p>\n\n\n<section id=\"chrs-with-us\"        class=\"nau-article-block-simple-color-text-photo bg-true-blue \">\n            <figure>\n            <picture>\n                <source srcset=\"https:\/\/legacy.nau.edu\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/234\/4496_restoring_balance_20190130-1200x900.jpg\" media=\"(min-width: 768px)\" \/><source srcset=\"https:\/\/legacy.nau.edu\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/234\/4496_restoring_balance_20190130-1200x900.jpg\" media=\"(min-width: 1100px)\" \/><img src=\"https:\/\/legacy.nau.edu\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/234\/4496_restoring_balance_20190130-800x600.jpg\" alt=\"Woman getting weighed at medical facility.\"  \/>            <\/picture>\n                    <\/figure>\n    \n        <hr role=\"none\" class=\"hr-clearspace-20 d-none-md\">\n\n        <h3>CHR WITH uS! <\/h3>        <div class=\"subheader\">Community health representative workforce integration in tribal health systems to address COVID-19<\/div>        <p>AACIHC, in partnership with eight Tribes and CHER, was awarded a three-year, $6 million grant from the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cdc.gov\/covid-community-health-workers\/index.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC)<\/a> to strengthen community-based responses to COVID-19.<\/p>\n<p>The award provides $2 million annually to fund\u00a0CHR WITH uS!, which supports the training and deployment of CHRs in their efforts to prevent the spread of COVID-19, build their communities\u2019 resilience to public health emergencies, and promote health equity for American Indians across the state.<\/p>\n<p><strong>CHR WITH us! involves eight tribally operated CHR programs:<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Cocopah Indian Tribe<\/li>\n<li>Colorado River Indian Tribes<\/li>\n<li>Gila River Health Care<\/li>\n<li>Hopi Tribe<\/li>\n<li>Hualapai Tribe<\/li>\n<li>Navajo Nation<\/li>\n<li>Salt River Pima-Maricopa Indian Community<\/li>\n<li>White Mountain Apache Tribe<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n    \n\n<\/section>\n\n    <\/div>\n<\/section>\n\n<div class=\"nau-block nau-block-left-nav-bottom-bound\">\n\n<\/div>","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"","protected":false},"author":286,"featured_media":10955,"parent":0,"menu_order":0,"comment_status":"closed","ping_status":"closed","template":"","meta":{"ring_central_script_selection":""},"acf":[],"_links":{"self":[{"href":"https:\/\/legacy.nau.edu\/center-community-health-engaged-research\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/pages\/7483"}],"collection":[{"href":"https:\/\/legacy.nau.edu\/center-community-health-engaged-research\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/pages"}],"about":[{"href":"https:\/\/legacy.nau.edu\/center-community-health-engaged-research\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/types\/page"}],"author":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/legacy.nau.edu\/center-community-health-engaged-research\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/users\/286"}],"replies":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/legacy.nau.edu\/center-community-health-engaged-research\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/comments?post=7483"}],"version-history":[{"count":64,"href":"https:\/\/legacy.nau.edu\/center-community-health-engaged-research\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/pages\/7483\/revisions"}],"predecessor-version":[{"id":15954,"href":"https:\/\/legacy.nau.edu\/center-community-health-engaged-research\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/pages\/7483\/revisions\/15954"}],"wp:featuredmedia":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/legacy.nau.edu\/center-community-health-engaged-research\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/media\/10955"}],"wp:attachment":[{"href":"https:\/\/legacy.nau.edu\/center-community-health-engaged-research\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/media?parent=7483"}],"curies":[{"name":"wp","href":"https:\/\/api.w.org\/{rel}","templated":true}]}}
