It was a hybrid experience with several of the students and instructors attending virtually.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The innovative graduate certification program, funded through the National Institute on Drug Abuse, fills a critical need for culturally relevant training in health professions, and complements NAU\u2019s doctoral programs in health care and behavioral health fields. <strong>Julie A. Baldwin<\/strong>, Regents\u2019 Professor and CHER director, and&nbsp;<strong>Ramona Mellott<\/strong>, dean of the NAU College of Education and professor in the Department of Educational Psychology are the Multiple Principal Investigators (MPIs) of the project.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>NAU faculty in the program include instructors and academic mentors&nbsp;<strong>Shane Haberstroh<\/strong>, professor,&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/legacy.nau.edu\/ed-psych\/\">Department of Educational Psychology<\/a>; <strong>Juliette Roddy<\/strong>,&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/legacy.nau.edu\/criminology-and-criminal-justice\/wurgler-chair\/\">NARBHA Institute James Wurgler MD chair of Criminal Justice and Behavioral Health<\/a>; <strong>Heather Williamson<\/strong>, associate professor, <a href=\"https:\/\/legacy.nau.edu\/occupational-therapy\/\">Department of Occupational Therapy<\/a> and CHER;&nbsp;&nbsp;<strong>Chesleigh Keene<\/strong>, assistant professor, Department of Educational Psychology;&nbsp;<strong>Amit Kumar<\/strong>, assistant professor,&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/legacy.nau.edu\/physical-therapy\/\">Department of Physical Therapy and Athletic Training<\/a>;&nbsp;<strong>Emery Eaves<\/strong>, associate professor,&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/legacy.nau.edu\/anthropology\/\">Department of Anthropology<\/a>;&nbsp;<strong>Oaklee Rogers<\/strong>, chair and associate professor, Department of Occupational Therapy; and&nbsp;<strong>Regents\u2019 Professor Robert T. Trotter<\/strong>, Department of Anthropology. CHER Senior Research Coordinator <strong>Carolyn Camplain<\/strong> also assists. The program also has a National Advisory Board with leading experts in the field.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The program includes students from doctoral programs in occupational therapy, physical therapy, clinical psychology, counseling\/school psychology, and interdisciplinary health from departments throughout the university, as well as practicing professionals from the community.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The first cohort includes: <strong>Amanda Acevedo<\/strong>, clinical psychology; <strong>Jeffersson Brasil Pires Dos Santos<\/strong>, interdisciplinary health; <strong>Lillian Jones<\/strong>, clinical psychology; <strong>Neshay Mall<\/strong>, combined counseling\/school psychology; <strong>Marca McCallie<\/strong>, NAU Campus Health Services; <strong>David Mensah,<\/strong> interdisciplinary health; <strong>Brooke Tubbs<\/strong>, occupational therapy; <strong>Ariella Welsh<\/strong>, Occupational Therapy; <strong>Anna Weymann<\/strong>, physical therapy; and <strong>Melissa Wheeler<\/strong>, combined counseling\/school psychology.
