The Culturally Centered Addictions Research Training (C-CART) <\/strong>program welcomes its second cohort of nine scholars.  The purpose of the C-CART is to educate clinicians, providers, and doctoral students in health professions in research skills that include culturally-centered practices, related to substance use and substance use disorders which can be applied in interprofessional practice and diverse settings.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Interest in joining the C-CART program: <\/strong>My interest in joining C-CART is because I\u2019ve wanted to enrich my understanding of the intersection of culture and substance use research. I also hope to improve and connect with national scholars on substance use research in advancing conversation and programming for communities in Northern Arizona.<\/p>\n<\/div><\/div>\n\n\n\n

Interest in joining the C-CART program:<\/strong> The program’s mission to develop culturally-centered research projects was the inspiration for my decision to choose this journey. I look forward to gaining knowledge and skills to help give back to the communities in Arizona.<\/p>\n<\/div><\/div>\n\n\n\n

Interest in joining the C-CART program:<\/strong> Having worked in clinical in-patient treatment centers, acute hospital behavioral health stabilization units, and currently as a counselor on the Hopi and Navajo reservations I have seen how deeply substance abuse can affect individuals. Learning more about this issue will help me become a more effective clinician.<\/p>\n<\/div><\/div>\n\n\n\n

Program of study or work outside of C-CART: <\/strong>I currently work as an occupational therapist at a skilled nursing facility in southern Arizona. I received my doctorate in occupational therapy from NAU in May of 2021. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Interest in joining the C-CART program: <\/strong>I am currently working with individuals in recovery from substance, and I have the opportunity to work with individuals in recovery during my full time job. This program felt like the perfect opportunity to enhance my skills in research especially with a population that I am quite passionate about.<\/p>\n<\/div><\/div>\n\n\n\n
