Alumni highlights

  • Jayne Sandoval, studied Comparative Cultural Studies with an Asian emphasis, Mechanical Engineering along with a minor in Chinese. A member of the IGP Cohort of 2017 and part of the Navajo Nation, Jayn completed the Graduate Horizons program, geared towards helping Native American students prepare for applying for graduate schools and later completed a Fulbright in Taiwan.
  • Brece Hendrix, studied Spanish and Forestry, was recently co-published along with other research collaborators in Patagonia for their work on managing invasive species for pine trees in Argentina.
  • Skylar Weber, studied biomedical science and German, received a $1,000 study abroad grant from The Honor Society of Phi Kappa Phi, the nation’s oldest collegiate honor society. Skylar used the grant to study at Universität Konstanz in Konstanz, Germany. She was one of 75 selected based on academic achievement, community service, and career goals.
  • Jessica Archibald (Environmental Studies & Spanish, ’19) was recognized for her publication while working at CONICET in Patagonia, Argentina. She is now pursuing a PhD with support from a National Science Foundation fellowship, focusing on ecological restoration and community-based conservation in Mesoamerica.
  • Austin Dikeman, studied French and Biology, was recently highlighted for her Goldwater Scholars win.
  • Laura Lillis, studied Spanish & Biology, was awarded the Fulbright-García Robles Commission award to support up to two years in a master’s program at UNAM.
  • Jordyn Upton, studied Biology & Spanish, was selected from over 4,000 entries to present at the the National Council on Undergraduate Research conference in Georgia.
  • Mia Pique, studied Geology & Spanish, received a HURA award to continue her work on Reventador volcano

Alana Weber (Environmental Science & Modern Languages, ’16) is a Research Biologist with the Canadian government, studying the ecology of viruses like COVID-19 and Avian Influenza. Her IGP experience in Chile and Argentina sparked her interest in environmental toxicology and supported her path to a Master’s degree in Canada.
