Information for team and individual rounds

Individual round  Accordion Closed

Multiple choice, 50 questions, 60 minutes, no calculators are allowed. This exam will be taken individually by all participants and will be similar to the State Mathematics Contest, having questions from different levels of mathematics. There will be questions in each of the following areas: algebra, geometry, advanced algebra, precalculus, and problem solving. Students will be asked to mark their level on their test, which may be verified by their teachers. Individual awards will be given for the top five individuals at each level and the top 10 individuals overall. School awards will be given for the top three schools at each level and the top three schools overall.

No calculators of any kind are allowed. Students will work in teams of 3 or 4. High schools may form up to 5 teams to compete in this round while middle schools may form up to 2 teams. Teams will be given 10 questions to work in their groups. At the end of the designated time, each team will turn in one answer paper per question. Awards will be given to the top three teams and the students on those teams.

The top teams from each school (1 middle school team and 1 high school team) will be selected to participate in the College Bowl Round.  If a qualifying team does not have four members, they may choose a fourth member from their school.

College Bowl round  Accordion Closed

Four-person teams determined by the results of the Team Round. No calculators are allowed. A circular system will be used to pair teams, which will compete on a series of questions. The questions will be projected on a screen and read simultaneously to the group. The first team to buzz in, be recognized, and give the correct answer in the allotted time limit will earn a point. If the first team to buzz in gives an incorrect answer, the other team will be given an opportunity to answer the same question.  A prize will be given for the top teams (1 middle school team and 1 high school team) and each of the individuals on those teams.

Scoring method

The school score at a level will be based only on the individual exam. It will be determined by adding the scores of the top three students from that level. Therefore, to compete for school prizes at a level, each school must send at least three students at that level. If fewer than three students compete at a level, the school is not eligible for school prizes at that level, but individuals may still be awarded individual prizes. The overall team score for the individual contest will be determined by adding the scores from levels 1 through 5 as determined above by the top three students at each level.
