Mechanical Engineering Machine Shop

Welcome to the Mechanical Engineering Machine Shop

The Mechanical Engineering Machine Shop is dedicated to supporting mechanical engineering students and faculty by providing the tools, resources, and expertise needed to bring engineering designs to life. Whether you’re working on a class project, fabricating competition components, or refining your machining skills, our shop supports your academic and professional development.

                                         Machine Shop Schedule

The Mechanical Engineering Machine Shop is more than just a workspace—it’s a place where future engineers develop their skills and turn concepts into reality. Whether you’re machining your first part or refining an advanced prototype, we are here to help you succeed.

The equipment in the lab is most traditionally metalworking hand tools and machines.

What we offer Accordion Closed

  • State-of-the-Art Equipment: Our shop has CNC mills, lathes, welding station, and other essential manufacturing tools tailored for mechanical engineering applications.
  • Course Support: We provide hands-on assistance for ME students and faculty in courses like EGR186, ME286, ME286L, ME386W, ME450, ME476C, and ME486C, ensuring access to the fabrication tools required for coursework and research projects.
  • Club Collaboration: We proudly support NAU’s Mechanical Engineering clubs, including ASME, SAE, SWE, and CWC, assisting in fabricating competition-ready designs and projects.
  • Training & Safety: Safety is our top priority. We offer comprehensive training sessions to ensure all students and faculty can operate equipment safely and effectively.
  • Expert Guidance: Our experienced staff is available to help troubleshoot, optimize fabrication techniques, and provide recommendations to improve design and manufacturability specific to mechanical engineering applications.

How to get started Accordion Closed

  1. Check Requirements – Ensure you’ve completed the safety training before using any equipment.
  2. Reserve Equipment – Some machines require reservations. Check our scheduling system to secure your time slot.
  3. Consult with Our Staff – Our team is always available to assist if you need guidance or troubleshooting.
  4. Follow Safety Protocols – Always adhere to shop rules to maintain a safe and efficient workspace for all mechanical engineering students and faculty.

  • 1 ea. Propane\Oxygen Torch
  • 12 ea. Computers with SolidWorks, Mastercam, ANSYS, and Matlab installed and available for students use.
