or guardian died in the line of duty while performing as a public safety officer are eligible to receive a maximum Pell Grant for the award year for which the determination of eligibility is <\/header>\n\n    <div class=\"hiw-innerblockwrapper  \">\n                    <p class=\"is-style-eyebrow\">Children of Fallen Heroes Grant criteria<\/p>\n        \n        <!--h3><\/h3-->\n\n        <div class=\"wp-block-columns\">\n            <div class=\"wp-block-column\"><p><!-- wp:paragraph --><\/p>\n<p>To qualify, a student must meet <strong>all three<\/strong> of the following criteria:<\/p>\n<p><!-- \/wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:list --><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Have a valid <a href=\"https:\/\/studentaid.gov\/h\/apply-for-aid\/fafsa\">FAFSA<\/a> on file with NAU.<\/li>\n<li>Be eligible for the Pell Grant, as determined by the FAFSA.<\/li>\n<li>Be less than 24 years of age or enrolled at an institution of higher education at the time of the parent\u2019s or guardian\u2019s death.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><!-- \/wp:list --><\/p>\n<\/div>                    <\/div>\n\n                \n        <div class=\"wp-block-buttons alignright\">\n                    <\/div>\n    <\/div>\n<\/section>\n\n\n\n<h3><strong>Renewal criteria<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>The student\u2019s eligibility for the maximum Pell Grant will continue as long as the student has a Pell-eligible SAI and continues to be an eligible student.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3><strong>Acceptable documentation<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>Eligible students must self-identify and demonstrate their eligibility with NAU Office of Scholarships and Financial Aid by uploading any of the following documentation below using the <a href=\"http:\/\/legacy.nau.edu\/OSFAdoc-upload\">secure document upload form<\/a>:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul><li>a determination letter acknowledging eligibility for certain federal benefits under the Public Safety Officers Benefit (PSOB) program administered by the Department of Justice<\/li><li>a written letter of attestation of determination made by a state or local government official with supervisory or other relevant oversight authority of an individual who died in the line of duty while serving as a public safety officer as defined in the next section<\/li><li>documentation of the student qualifying for a state tuition or other state benefit accorded to the children or other family members of a public safety officer consistent with the definition in 42 U.S.C. 3796b, or as a fire police officer as noted in the next section<\/li><li>other documentation the school determines to be from a credible source that describes or reports the circumstances of the death and the occupation of the parent or guardian<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h4><strong>Definitions<\/strong><\/h4>\n\n\n\n\t\t<script src=\"\/wp-content\/themes\/nau-marketing-2021\/js\/accordion.js\"><\/script>\n\n\t\t<div class=\"accordion accordion-flush my-5\">\n\n\t\t\n\t\t\t<div class=\"accordion-item\">\n\t\t\t\t<h3 class=\"accordion-header\" id=\"collapse-Public-safety-officer1-header\">\n\t\t\t\t\t<button class=\"accordion-button collapsed\" type=\"button\" data-bs-toggle=\"collapse\" data-bs-target=\"#collapse-Public-safety-officer1\" aria-expanded=\"false\" aria-controls=\"collapse-Public-safety-officer1\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\tPublic safety officer\t\t\t\t\t<\/button>\n\t\t\t\t<\/h3>\n\t\t\t\t<div id=\"collapse-Public-safety-officer1\" class=\"accordion-collapse collapse \" role=\"region\" aria-labelledby=\"collapse-Public-safety-officer1-header\" style=\"\">\n\t\t\t\t\t<div class=\"accordion-body\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t<p>a) an individual serving a public agency in an official capacity, with or without compensation, as a law enforcement officer, as a firefighter, or as a chaplain;<br \/>\nb) an employee of the Federal Emergency Management Agency who is performing official duties of the agency in an area, if those official duties\u2014<br \/>\n(i) are related to a major disaster or emergency that has been, or is later, declared to exist with respect to the area under the Robert T. Stafford Disaster Relief and Emergency Assistance Act (42 U.S.C. 5121 et seq.); and<br \/>\n(ii) are determined by the director of the Federal Emergency Management Agency to be hazardous duties;<br \/>\nc) an employee of a state, local, or tribal emergency management or civil defense agency who is performing official duties in cooperation with the Federal Emergency Management Agency in an area, if those official duties\u2014<br \/>\n(i) are related to a major disaster or emergency that has been, or is later, declared to exist with respect to the area under the Robert T.
