SICCS Professor Ben Ruddell and a team of scientists associated with Oak Ridge National Laboratory were awarded the 2021 Ecological Society of America Sustainability Science Award for their work on the PNAS publication “US cities can manage national hydrology and biodiversity using local infrastructure policy.” The Sustainability Science Award recognizes the authors of the scholarly work that makes the greatest contribution to the emerging science of ecosystem and regional sustainability through the integration of ecological and social sciences.… Read more

Congratulations to Isaiah Shipley on receiving the Jean Shuler Research Mini-Grant 2021!

Isaiah Shipley is a third-year undergraduate in Electrical Engineering working in Dr. Daphne Chen’s group, and conducting the research in emerging non-volatile memory and neuromorphic computing. His proposal has been selected as one of four recipients on Jean Shuler Research Mini-grant (one-year research project). He is highly self-motivated, enthusiastic on doing research, creative, and hopes to continue research with more nanomaterials and in-memory computing at NAU SICCS.

NAU researcher collaborates with ASU team to develop groundbreaking technology for improved food safety

Morgan Vigil-Hayes Quantifies and Addresses Gaps in Internet Connectivity in Rural and Tribal Communities

Dr. Vigil-Hayes is partnering with teachers and parents at STAR School to design and develop the Digital Backpack (DigiPack), an opportunistic content delivery system and mobile application that allows students living on Navajo Nation to engage with digital learning content at home even when Internet connectivity is slow, intermittent, or non-existent. This project is funded under Stage I of the competitive NSF CIVIC Innovation program.
