Investigator Development Core
SHERC’s Investigator Development Core (IDC) overall goal is to support research training and career development of early-stage investigators (ESIs) in basic biomedical, behavioral, and/or clinical sciences with a focus on translational and team science.
This goal is met through the Pilot Project Program and the Individualized Mentoring Program.
Initiatives and Programs
Pilot Project Program Accordion Open
The Pilot Project Program (PPP) supports and mentors ESIs in health disparities research, to generate preliminary data that will increase investigators’ competitiveness for NIH and other external health and health disparity-related research funding.
The PPP provides seed funding for ESIs to establish strong and successful programs of research and supports the development of team science and translational research skills. Investigators selected for PPP funding must agree to fully participate in the Individualized Mentoring Program.
Investigators selected for PPP funding must participate in the Individualized Mentoring Program.
Individualized Mentoring Program Accordion Closed
The Individualized Mentoring Program (IMP) overall goal is to build institutional capacity by increasing the number of ESIs receiving training in health disparity-related research with a focus on team science and translational research. The IMP provides formalized training and mentoring to transition mentees into strong independent investigators and future mentors.
Investigators who apply for PPP funding will receive individualized support throughout the proposal process, help selecting mentor teams, and formal mentorship and research support by the SHERC cores. IMP mentorship is provided for SHERC pilot and research project investigators.
IMP mentorship is provided for SHERC pilot and research project investigators.
