Pilot Project, Year 9
Summary of project:
- Music-based interventions (MBIs) have shown benefits for mental health and cognitive functioning, but their use among individuals with memory loss or chronic health challenges is understudied.
- This project will adapt an existing MBI curriculum for adults in Northern Arizona and evaluate its effects through a quasi-experimental design with pre/post measures and interviews.
- The intervention uses group music sessions to promote cognitive engagement, emotional regulation, and social connectedness.
- Results will help determine the feasibility and early impact of MBIs tailored for cognitive health across a range of community settings.
Funding: The study is funded by NIMHD/NIH 5U54MD012388
