On December 16, 2024, faculty and staff from the Department of Social Work came together to participate in a community clean-up effort along their designated section of East Pine Knoll Drive near the Flagstaff campus. The initiative was coordinated by Dr. Michael McCarthy in collaboration with the City of Flagstaff, which provided essential clean-up supplies, including safety vests, gloves, garbage and recycling bags, and trash grabbers.
In less than an hour, participants collected over five bags of trash and recyclable materials. This effort supports the City of Flagstaff’s ongoing mission to maintain clean and safe neighborhoods, trails, parks, and streets—an endeavor that depends on the dedication of hundreds of volunteers each year.
The Department of Social Work remains committed to active community engagement and is proud to contribute through the Adopt an Avenue program. Faculty and staff reconvened for their second clean-up day on May 7, 2025, continuing their efforts to make a positive local impact.
