Senior Spotlight!

Senior Spotlight

by Natosha Towsend

Rebecca Ziement pictureRebecca Ziemet is one of TOC’s graduating seniors! She came in as a transfer student in Fall 2018 and now in Spring 2020, she will be a Lumberjack Alumni. We here at NAU’s Transfer and Online Connections are so proud of her accomplishments.

Rebecca is not only a Transfer Peer Mentor for TOC, but she is also the Vice President of her sorority: Mu Epsilon Theta. Rebecca has also become a member of two honor societies while being here at NAU: Tau Sigma National Honor Society and Psi Chi, the International Honor Society in Psychology. She is also a member of the psych club as well to add to these accomplishments.

Rebecca is majoring in psychological sciences with a minor in social work. She does not know what field she wants to venture into after graduation as her professional interests include childhood trauma, student affairs, and foster care. She does hope to go into a counseling-related field after she graduates from grad school because she wants to help people work through their challenges and become better students.

Aside from her studies and work, she knows how to have a good time to unwind from all that she does. She loves Disney and the Jonas Brothers and is a nostalgic person. Rebecca expressed her love for Disney movies because of how they make her feel, “They remind me of a happier time since Disney always has happy endings. They are an escape from reality.” Her love for the Jonas Brothers stems back to them being her first concert in her youth and when they reunited as a band again, it created that nostalgia feeling. She also likes to learn more about her faith during this time because it helps her know that everything happens for a reason and how everything works out in the end.

When she came in as a mentee, she says that the TOC helped her explore NAU and get connected to things she normally wouldn’t have. “I’m shy and I would have never joined a sorority, but my mentor encouraged me and it’s one of the biggest blessing in my life,” Rebecca says. As a mentor, she said that the TOC helped her to develop the people skills she needed that would translate to her future career. It has also gave her an opportunity to help people who were in similar positions that she had once been in.

We wish her all the luck as she goes on these new adventures into the world of pursuing her dreams. She will always be family here at TOC and as a Lumberjack at NAU. Congratulations, Rebecca!
