NAU's email service is a public resource owned by the State of Arizona

NAU email accounts are a privilege not a right

Incidental personal use of NAU email accounts is allowed, provided that it does not violate policy

Employees may not use their NAU email account to conduct personal for-profit business or commercial activity

Employees may not use their NAU email account to attempt to influence the outcome of any election or to advocate in support or opposition of any pending or proposed legislation

Using a personal email account to conduct official NAU business is prohibited

NAU may revoke NAU email privileges from those who violate applicable policy

NAU email accounts carry no expectation of personal privacy and their security or confidentiality cannot be guaranteed

The contents of NAU email accounts may be subject to disclosure under Arizona's public records laws

Electronic Mail
Northern Arizona University’s electronic mail (or “email”) service is a tool intended to support the University’s official educational, administrative, and business activities while providing an official means of communication between the University and its employees and students. All users are advised that email transmitted or stored by the University may be accessed, reviewed, or disclosed to appropriate third parties in accordance with applicable law, policy, or legal order. While the University endeavors to provide a secure and dependable email service, users must exercise caution when communicating confidential or sensitive information and should be aware that with some exceptions, the content of University email accounts may be subject to disclosure under Arizona’s public records laws.
