2.06 Work Schedules

This policy establishes Northern Arizona University’s normal workday and workweek.

Origination Date: 10/1/93
Revised: 1/1/2000, 7/01/2017
Applicability: All Employees

Work Schedules

The university’s varied activities do not permit a single work schedule for all departments. Department heads are responsible for establishing work schedules appropriate to the mission of their respective areas, in accordance with this policy. The university recognizes that there will be situations where deviations from the normal workday and/or workweek may be appropriate. Changes to work schedules may be authorized by the appropriate department head. For information regarding exceptions to policy based upon religious or disability accommodations, see Policy 1.02.

The Workday

Full-time employees are expected to work eight hours per day, in addition to a one-hour unpaid lunch period. The university’s standard business hours and normal workday is 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. with a one-hour unpaid lunch period. This may be modified by a supervisor to meet the needs of a department. All university offices should remain operational during the lunch period.

The Workweek

The university’s workweek consists of seven 24-hour periods that begin at 12:01 a.m. on Monday and end seven days later on Sunday at midnight. The normal work schedule for full-time employees consists of five eight-hour work periods for a total of 40 hours worked within the university’s established workweek. This may be modified by a supervisor to meet the needs of a department.
