Arizona Promise Program

Helping Arizona resident students pay for college

For eligible students, NAU will cover the remaining cost of tuition, mandatory fees, as well as college/program and Honors fees not covered by other grant and scholarship funding.

Award amount

The Arizona Promise Program helps eligible first-year Arizona students attend NAU, paying tuition and fees after other aid is applied. It’s one more way we’re expanding access to higher education. The award amount varies by student.

How to apply

You don’t need to apply! Students are automatically evaluated and awarded.

Eligibility criteria

To be eligible for the Arizona Promise Program, students must:

  • Be an Arizona resident
  • Be admitted to NAU as a degree-seeking first-year student by May 1
  • Attend NAU at the Flagstaff campus
  • File your FAFSA by the preferred FAFSA filing date
    • Students starting fall: April 15
    • Students starting spring: October 15
  • Be enrolled full-time (12+ credits per semester)
  • Be eligible for the Federal Pell Grant as determined by your FAFSA

Renewal criteria

After your first year, you may continue to receive aid to cover your tuition, mandatory fees, college/program and Honors fees (for up to eight consecutive semesters total) if:

  • You are eligible for the Pell Grant (as determined by the FAFSA)
  • You file your FAFSA and have a complete and verified file by the preferred FAFSA filing date each year

Note: the Arizona Promise Program does not cover expenses outside of tuition and mandatory fees, such as housing or food, but other scholarships or grants might!
